Job Description

The Risk Recoveries team operates within the Collections and Recoveries environment and is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating risks arising from recoveries‑related activities. The team supports the business by ensuring that risks are visible, controlled, and appropriately managed to protect the bank, clients, and regulatory standing. The successful incumbant will be dealing with legal matters, specifically court orders, legal documents and liaising with Attorneys.

Experience

Minimum:

  • 5 years’ experience in a banking, legal, if candidate is in possession of relevant qualification (e.g. diploma)
  • 2 years’ experience in a banking, legal, if person is in possession of relevant tertiary qualification (degree)
  • Experience working with legal documents and legal matters
  • Experience of working with Debt Counsellors, Debt Collectors and/or Attorneys

Ideal:

  • Capitec Bank experience
  • Experience working at a law firm as e.g. candidate attorney/ paralegal
  • Experience with legal research and drafting of legal opinions and documents
  • Experience with due diligence and financial investigations
  • Experience in working with data in Excel (e.g. pivots, Vlookups, etc)

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • Certification
  • Diploma in Law or Risk and Compliance

Qualifications (Ideal or Preferred)

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Law or Risk and Compliance

Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of legislation relevant to banking environment i.e. National Credit Act (NCA), Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI), Prescription Act
  • Client relationship principles and environment
  • Liaising with 3rd party providers, e.g. Debt Counsellors and Debt Collectors/ Attorneys

Ideal:

  • Working knowledge of Magistrate’s Courts Act and Rules, Legal Practice Act, its Rules and Regulations, and of the Debt Collectors Act
  • Capitec Bank policies, including:
  • HR policies, disciplinary code and procedures
  • IPA procedures and policies
  • Capitec banking system
  • Knowledge of risk management and/or compliance
  • Interpretation of data and how to report it in a clear, logical manner
