The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for staff, students, guests and /or any other assigned passengers and goods, ensuring the vehicle is maintained in a clean and serviceable condition, and following all organizational policies and legal requirements. Performs routine vehicle inspection and maintenance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely transport staff, visitors, and goods to various destinations as required.
  • Ensure that all passengers use seat belts and follow safety protocols.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of goods and materials.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks (oil, fuel, brakes, tires, lights, etc.) and report any issues to the Logistics Officer.
  • Ensure the vehicle/Bus is regularly serviced and maintained.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out, at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle/Bus usage, including mileage, fuel consumption, and service history.
  • Complete and submit trip reports, logbooks, and fuel records as required.
  • Report any accidents, defects, or mechanical problems immediately.
  • Adhere to all national traffic laws and regulations.
  • Follow the organization’s safety procedures and policies, including the use of seat belts and adherence to speed limits.
  • Ensure all vehicle documents (insurance, registration, etc.) are up-to-date and available in the vehicle/Bus.
  • Assist in the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items as required.
  • Provide logistical support during field missions and events, including setting up equipment and arranging transport.
  • Report all major and minor damages and accidents on the vehicle at hand to the supervisor.
  • Assist with other administrative and operational tasks as needed

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Education

  • Must hold a UACE certificate. A diploma in mechanical engineering is an added advantage.
  • Should have a valid driving License/ permit of Class of D1, D and DE.
  • Must have a certificate in defensive driving
  • Must have a National ID.

Experience

The Bus Driver shall possess a minimum of 3+ years’ work experience of driving experience with a clean record with a recognized and busy institution.

Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and the ability to perform minor repairs.
  • Familiarity with the area of operation and local routes.
  • Ability to use GPS and other navigation tools.
  • Computer literacy is an added advantage.

Language Skills

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in difficult conditions.
  • Punctual, reliable, and respectful.
  • Must be a person of high level of integrity
