Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer

Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for providing legal advice to the business, contract management and overseeing regulatory processes and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Consultation

• Review matters, documents and agreements and provide legal advice to various areas of the business.
• Assist in the preparation of legal advisory papers to the board, Executive Committee and Heads of Departments.

Contract Management

• Review draft agreements, assess legal implications and provide advice on proposed agreements.
• Participate in negotiation discussions on standard contracts.
• Prepare contract variations, amendments, extensions and renewals.
• Advise on performance indicators and risk aspects of various contracts.

Compliance

• Develop and actively track compliance register for all statutory requirements.
• Monitor and tracks interactions with the regulator and governmental agencies.
• Direct the preparation and submission of regulatory agency applications, reports and correspondence.
• Review regulatory agency submission material to ensure adherence to timelines, accuracy, comprehensiveness and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Provide regulatory guidance to departments or development project teams regarding design, development, evaluation, or marketing of products.

Dispute Resolution Management

• Attend court appearances as company representative when needed.
• Assist in issuing opinions and negotiations.
• Identify and prepare documentation and witnesses, proposed settlements etc where legal proceedings are instituted.
• Manages the overdue debt collection processes.

Role Requirements

• A University Degree in Law (LLB) is mandatory.
• LLM or MBA advantageous.
• At least 3 years post admission experience in a law firm or multi-jurisdictional corporate along with sound knowledge of the country legislation.
• Experience in telecoms or related industries advantageous.
