Job Description

The Manager, Planning is responsible for leading the development, integration, and governance of mine planning inputs across life-of-mine, strategic, and medium-term planning horizons. This role ensures that planning processes, capital evaluations, and forecasting activities are aligned with operational strategy, technical standards, and execution readiness. The Manager - Planning provides oversight of key planning deliverables, including reserves, capital AFE, resource strategy, and business improvement initiatives, while driving the implementation of guidelines and mentoring programs across planning teams. The role is pivotal in enabling coordination between technical disciplines, ensuring planning assumptions are valid, inputs are technically validated and aligned with operational context, and outputs are structured to inform execution and performance measurement.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Accountable for medium-term planning procedures and succession planning, including the coordination of quarterly and annual forecasting cycles and 12-month production forecasts.
  • Establish and maintain planning standards and procedures to ensure consistency and quality across planning activities.
  • Accountable for regular review and validation of planning assumptions to ensure relevance and accuracy.
  • Deliver clear and accurate planning reports and presentations to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Accountable for reporting mineral reserves and resources in alignment with regulatory and corporate governance standards.
  • Responsible for preparing and reviewing Appropriation for Expenditure (AFE) submissions for capital projects, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Liaise with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as part of technical governance to ensure geotechnical systems, designs, and standards reflect industry best practice.
  • Identify and implement planning-related improvements that contribute to business performance, compliance, and planning integration.
  • Accountable for leading the design and scheduling of capital infrastructure required to support the delivery of the life-of-mine plan.
  • Accountable for leading the design and scheduling of operating development that supports efficient and safe extraction throughout the mine life.
  • Accountable for the health of the resource and reserve conversion process by ensuring inclusion of geological function outputs into the life-of-mine plan.
  • Responsible for liaising with key corporate stakeholders to ensure that the life-of-mine plan aligns with the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Accountable for evaluating and comparing life-of-mine scenarios to optimize long-term value and risk management.
  • Accountable for ensuring that planning and prioritization of capital infrastructure projects to support mine development.
  • Accountable for assessing the technical and economic viability of new mining projects to support investment decisions.
  • Accountable for conducting cut-off grade analyses to guide economic extraction and optimize resource utilization.
  • Accountable for the development, integration, and governance of medium-term to long-term plans ensuring alignment with life-of-mine strategy, business objectives, and operational readiness. This includes overseeing sequencing logic, infrastructure dependencies, and key milestones required for execution.
  • Accountable for ensuring that medium-term plans are fully integrated with long-term strategies and short-term execution schedules, facilitating seamless handover between planning horizons.
  • Accountable for reviewing and endorsing medium-term scenarios and production forecasts that support tactical decision-making and operational agility.
  • Accountable for incorporating void model updates into all planning horizons.
  • Accountable for incorporating Ground Control Management Plan deliverables across all planning horizons.
  • Accountable for incorporating Ventilation Management Plan deliverables across all planning horizons.
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership to planning engineers to build capability and succession.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline. Advanced training in mine planning, scheduling and production software (e.g. Deswik CAD & IS) is essential. Membership of a recognized Professional body is a plus. Ability to act as qualified or competent person to sign-off mineral reserve estimation. Possession of a Mine Captain Certificate of Competency from the Minerals commission of Ghana (Mincom) is desirable but not a pre-requisite.

Experience: Minimum of 8 years' experience in underground mine planning, with demonstrated progression in senior technical leadership roles. Strong background in Life of Mine (LOM) planning, mineral reserve estimation, strategic scheduling, and integration of long, medium, and short-term planning horizons. Proven experience in capital evaluation, business planning, and delivery of planning inputs to support financial forecasting and AFE development. In-depth understanding of Deswik CAD and Scheduler, with experience in managing design standards, design compliance, and integration of design packages into operational plans. Demonstrated ability to oversee multi-disciplinary planning teams, coordinating across geology, geotechnical, ventilation, survey, and operations. Experience in stakeholder engagement, including presentations to technical committees, leadership teams, and external reviewers. Familiarity with performance reporting standards, planning guidelines and procedures, and compliance with regulatory and internal planning frameworks. Experience in operating within a contractor-owner Alliance model is desirable.

Knowledge & Skills: Proficiency in Deswik is essential. Strong analytical, scheduling and report writing skills using Excel and relevant tools. Effective communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams. Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
