Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (“UMAA”)

Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (“UMAA”) is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.

UMAA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of a Mine Controller - Production Engineer - Drills and Blast.

This is Obuasi based Fixed Term Contract position with a competitive work roster at its operation in Obuasi. Remuneration package includes attractive salary and performance-based incentive payments for the right candidate.

The Production Engineer plays a key role in the execution and integrity of operational data systems that support short- and medium-term planning, compliance monitoring and adherence, and production delivery. The role ensures the accurate and consistent capture of shift-level performance data, timely report generation, and the consistent application of reporting standards across the operation. The Engineer makes informed decisions through reliable data outputs and system performance. The role also contributes to continuous improvement through live-data monitoring, coordination, reporting enhancements and alignment with departmental procedures and compliance frameworks.

This position serves as a critical interface between execution and planning teams, ensuring operational performance compliance and communication of reliable, consistent, and clear information across the mine.

Key Duties

  • Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
  • Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
  • Mining dispatch (production drills): allocate and redirect drills, and consumables according to stopping priorities
  • Respect defined blend/quality restrictions
  • Rehabilitation and backlog: maintain prioritized list of face rescheduling, schedule intra-shift windows with L3
  • Records in fleet management software: enter events, status, reason codes, cycle times, meters and tonnages
  • Receive official information on ventilation/gas conditions and releases before re-entry
  • Intra-shift logistics integration: request and confirm critical supplies (rods, bits, services, explosives)
  • Coordinate with Maintenance/Infrastructure for intra-shift windows and return to service validation
  • Report system/telemetry/voice/data incidents to OEC Systems
  • Records and communication: maintain logbook by position, call logs, and shift decisions
  • Escalate any risk, priority conflict, or critical restriction compromising goals, safety, or shift continuity
  • Accountable for maintaining data quality and integrity across mine dispatch and operational support systems.
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with internal reporting procedures and standards to support reliable data capture and communication.
  • Support the implementation of business improvement initiatives through structured reporting, operational data insights and system enhancement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Production Engineering, or related fields (minimum: technical level with proven experience)
  • Relevant training in operational data management systems or production tracking tools is desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years in operational control or execution of mine stopping activities
  • Experience in short-term planning and monitoring in underground environments
  • Practical understanding of daily and weekly scheduling processes and operational data flow.
  • Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary teams to capture, validate, execute and communicate production data.
  • Monitoring and recording of development fronts
  • Analysis of progress and identification of deviations
  • Use of operational control and monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of underground mine development processes
  • Proficiency with fleet management systems, reporting, or scheduling software (e.g., Deswik Ops, Hexagon, Pitram, or similar).
  • Sound skills in Excel and reporting tools for data handling and dashboard preparation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to support shift-based coordination.
  • Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence “BE” (as required by site).
  • Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas
  • Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
  • Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements
