The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various refrigeration systems, including but not limited to commercial refrigerators, freezers, chillers, and HVAC-R units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections and tasks on all refrigeration and HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical system issues to identify the root cause of malfunctions and implementing effective repairs to minimize production downtime.
  • Recording system readings (temperature, pressure, oil and refrigerant levels), understanding variances, and making necessary adjustments to control temperature and humidity parameters for safe food storage.
  • Strictly adhere to all Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements.
  • Follow all departmental and company safety protocols, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Hot Work, and Confined Space Entry procedures.
  • Collaborating with production and quality assurance teams to maintain ideal processing and storage temperatures for all the products.
  • Accurately complete all necessary job cards, service reports, maintenance documentation, and time logs.
  • Initiating, managing, and executing system startups, shutdowns, and defrost cycles on all plant refrigeration equipment.
  • Assist in managing inventory of refrigeration spares and consumables

Requirements

  • At least an Advanced Craft Certificate or Diploma in Refrigeration and air Conditioning or any related field.
  • 3 years’ experience in industrial Refrigeration, preferably within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) or food processing environment (meat/poultry industry experience is a strong advantage)
  • In-depth knowledge of refrigeration principles, techniques, and practices.
  • Troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail
